We’ve already reviewed several ergonomic workstations and accessory products from Stand Up Desk Store and have more in the queue. Curious about the company’s history we did a little bit of sleuthing to learn that Stand Up Desk Store is really just a side hustle for Luxor; a way of selling their products D2C (direct-to-consumer) while continuing to sell its dealers and institutional customers under the Luxor name.
To be certain these are the exact same products that are made in China and sold in the USA by Luxor. These days those products include standing desks and standing desk converters, in addition to their more traditional product lines of dry erase boards, mobile charging carts, AV carts, utility carts and other products primarily aimed at schools. Luxor’s brand is known for being as inexpensive as possible, not for any sort of innovation or high-quality standard; in other words, it is a commodity producer. Luxor also supplies some name-brand retailers with their standing desks under a white label program.
Luxor itself is in turn owned by EBSCO Industries, a family business that was founded in Birmingham, Alabama in 1944 and has grown into a large conglomerate of companies across many industries, with over 70 acquisitions under its belt. These companies are grouped under different divisions that are in diverse fields such as Information Services, Healthcare Technology, Software-as-a-Service, Mobile Hydraulic Solutions, Electrical Products Distribution, Outdoor Products, Risk Management, Custom Merchandising Solutions and lastly “Workspace Solutions,” which is where Luxor and its Stand Up Desk Store side brand live.
As you can see from the list of products on Stand Up Desk Store’s Amazon Store, most of their standing desk offerings are in fact old school crank handle manually-adjustable desks (no pun intended). While there are very few manufacturers and resellers left of manual crank standing desks they still find a market among the most price-sensitive customers, including many schools. But just to confuse things a little bit more you can also find identical products sold on Amazon under the Luxor brand.
Electric desks are made in the millions per year now and are so close in price that we don’t know why anyone would still want to buy a far less reliable standing desk that’s harder to assemble, but this appears to remain a core product for Luxor. Perhaps in some school situations, it is impractical to plug the desks into AC power.

Stand Up Desk Store Standing Desk Converters
1. Stand Up Desk Store AirRise Plus Standing Desk Converter
When a new standing desk converter comes into our test labs with a really low retail price we’ve learned to contain our optimism about its potential to set the world on fire, because at the end of the day the only way to make something this cheap is to cut a lot of corners in design cycles and component quality. Indeed, we quickly discovered that the Stand Up Desk Store AirRise Plus converter has some big drawbacks: The cheap foam feet provide no traction control whatsoever, the wobbly keyboard tray floats above the desk when lowered all the way to the seated position, and you can’t center a monitor mount and not have it interfere with lifting mechanism when the converter is lowered to sitting height. There are some other minor issues, but those three factors mean we can’t recommend it, even with the cheap price.
Price: $199.99
